Interesting people part one: Adrian Spendlow poet, performer, writer & storyteller

I think I first met Adrian around 1 and half years ago, when I was still one of the Coquette promoters. We've booked him because we wanted something different and why not a poet.

He is a very lovely guy, absolutely passionate about what he does. One thing I share with Adrian is the big interest in Vikings. So as it happened, I mentioned to him what I'm working on and he messaged me a wonderful poem about Freya which I would like to share with you. But now the poem:

The woman who flies
has glided here from the land before time
where the old gods live.
This wonderful daughter of Njord
lands among as an emissary of fecundity;
bringing her blessings amidst us,
showing her ways willingly,
to the gladness of us all,
we the warriors roar,
we the warriors roar.

See how she soars high through our skies
bringing her beauty astonishingly,
this is the Goddess of love, love,
unbounded and generous love.
See how she smiles as she flies,
whirling around us,
waving from her sky-chariot;
let us imagine it is pink:
See how she steers her flying cats,
no let us say they are kittens.
See her fly.
Melting hearts she is with her eyes,
hear the sigh as her eyes flutter,
oh here is love; love, love, love.
Let us swoon for her.
Wedded to each of us,
bride of all of us she is.
Demanding us to float up to her.

But Odin the new god,
say his name like this Ooooooooodin ,
let me hear you, Ooooooooodin,
he is looking down with anger.
See how she quakes with flickering fear.
War-like Gods do not like her,
with her bounteous blessings and cascading joy.
Oooooodin he points at her, cursing,
creating for her a new role as a Goddess of Death.

See how she points commandingly,
causing us all, one by one, to laughingly die.
Die we do at her luscious whim to float and fly with her,
sway all of you, as you rise sighing,
as you ride high to her heaven.
Freyja oh Freyja transcend us to your heaven of love; love, love, love....

Who is Freya the goddess and why is Freya my stage name?

Freya is major goddess of Norse Mythology who is equal in power to Thor. She is the goddess of Beauty and Love and the patron of young lovers.

Freya also leads the valkyries, warrior maidens that ride over the battlefield on winged horses, collecting the souls of brave men.

She wears a falcon cloak, which gives her the ability to fly and her chariot is pulled by two large cats. Freya (or Freyja, Freja, Freija, Freia) is a very complex goddess as she is associated with love and beauty but also with war and death. I will go further into detail and tell you more about her later.

You might already see why I'm fascinated by her and picked Freya as my stage name. I have always been interested in Norse Mythology. Reading up on different kinds of Mythology itself for years, the stories of the Viking gods drew me in most. Maybe it has to do with my heritage, growing up in the North of Germany, looking over the Baltic Sea, where once the Vikings sailed. This is why, when I discovered Burlesque for myself, I wanted to pick a name I can relate to, beautiful and with a strong meaning.

I keep mentioning that I'm working on a big act at the moment. It is actually my dream act and not really Burlesque as it is far too serious. It goes more into performing arts. I'm creating "Freya the goddess" and it will be completely different to anything I have done before. A lot of thought has gone into this, costume, choreography, and choice of music to make it unique. It is very special to me and I hope I can make it very special for you too.
